Get Ready for a Stroll Through History: Williamsburg’s Walking Tour This April!

Hey there, garden enthusiasts and lovers of history! Get your walking shoes ready because the charming city of Williamsburg is gearing up for a spectacular event that you won’t want to miss. On Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the Williamsburg Garden Club invites you to take part in the historic walking tour as a part of Virginia’s beloved Historic Garden Week. Grab your friends and family for a delightful day filled with breathtaking gardens and stunning architecture!

A Week to Celebrate the Beauty of Gardens

This annual event spans an entire week and showcases everything that makes Virginia’s gardens special, with 48 member clubs participating in organizing various tours throughout the state. But it’s Williamsburg this time that promises a feast for the senses with its unique blend of colonial charm and lush landscapes.

Tour the Beautiful Grounds of Colonial Williamsburg

Guests will have the rare opportunity to explore three private properties that seldom open their doors to the public. Plus, four public gardens will be tended by knowledgeable horticultural professionals who are eager to share insights and gardening tips.

Discover Historic Homes and Lush Gardens

The walking tour will highlight four enchanting private homes located in the picturesque neighborhoods of Indian Springs and Burns Lane, dating all the way back from the late 1700s to the 1950s. Each home promises its own unique flair, complete with stunning floral arrangements thoughtfully crafted by members of the Garden Club of Virginia.

Don’t forget to experience the two exceptional private gardens included in the tour: one features a sprawling woodland garden filled with boxwoods and meandering paths, perfect for those who enjoy wandering through nature. The other showcases a cozy backyard garden that not only bursts with colorful flowers but also produces delicious vegetables.

A Full Day of Exploration Awaits

With a total of 13 sites to explore, including the famous Belle Farm House, guests will have a day chock-full of opportunities to soak up the beauty around them. The Belle Farm House is notable for its rich history, having originally been built in 1775 in Gloucester and relocated to Williamsburg in 1928. It underwent reconstruction in 1952, making it a treasure worth seeing!

Refreshments and Logistics: What You Need to Know

While you are enjoying the tour, complimentary refreshments will be served at two of the gardens located at 207 Burns Lane and 200 Indian Springs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A tasty treat to enhance your walking tour experience!

For those who like a little structure, attendees may check in at either the Williamsburg United Methodist Church, located at 500 Jamestown Road, or the Lightfoot House at 114 Francis St. E. in Colonial Williamsburg. Upon check-in, guests will receive a stylish wristband granting them access to the tour with all its delightful offerings.

For parking, paid options are available via the Passport Parking App at various convenient locations. These include the Williamsburg Inn, Tavern Lot, Visitors Center, and the City Parking Garage. Plus, your tour ticket also provides access to Colonial Williamsburg’s bus service, making it easier to navigate the historic district.

Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this year’s walking tour promises to be an unforgettable experience for everyone. Advanced tickets are available for $50 per person, or you can grab a day-of ticket for $60 per person. Want to know more? Check out the Williamsburg Garden Tour webpage for all the details.
